Versions
LANDesk Management Suite 8.7 and 8.8
Description
This article will explain how to create an ODBC Connection on the Core or Remote Console so that you can connect to the database. The LANDesk console will assume you are using port 1433 for your connection to the database. If you are using a different port number you will need to create an ODBC or see alternative method http://community.landesk.com/support/docs/DOC-5878.
MSDE or SQL 2005 Express
On the core open the registry and go to the following string: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\LDMSDATA\MSSQLServer\SuperSocketNetLib\TCP and you will find TcpPort and the number.
SQL 2005 Standard or Enterprise Editions
On the SQL Server go to the Start Menu > Programs > Microsoft SQL Server 2005 > Configuration Tools > SQL Server Configuration Manager
Right click on TCP/IP for Properties and go to the IP Addresses Tab to view TCP Port
1. Open Data Source (ODBC) from Administrative Tools (On the remote console you will find this in the Control Panel under Administrative Tools)
2. Click on the System DSN tab and click on Add
3. Choose SQL Server from the list and click Finish
4. Enter a Name (Any), Description (Any) and the Core Server Name (MSDE or SQL Express) or SQL Server Name (SQL 2005 Standard/Enterprise)
5. Choose SQL authentication > Enter SQL username and password > Click on Client Configuration
6. Uncheck "Dynamically determine port" and enter your port number found from your registry and press OK and NEXT.
Note: In some cases the Dynamically determine port does not work on client machines. You would in that case uncheck the box and enter 1433 on this screen.
7. In the drop down select your LANDesk Database. The default name is lddb.
8. Press Finish.
