Power Management Report - calculations

Has anyone used the Power Management savings report?  I was wondering everyones take on what metrics is this using to calculate potential power savings?

Meaning: Does it just take the existing registry values of power settings and compare them against potential or does it take into consideration actual system uptime? If a user's power settings are all set to "Always On" BUT the user actually DOES shut down at 5PM every evening, are we calculating off the actual running time of the machines (probably not because you would have to calculate this over a duration of time) or are you just calculating these savings based on the settings of "Always On"? Because if users conciously shut down - this would make the power saving inaccurate.

I have read the support document http://community.landesk.com/support/docs/DOC-3237 which leads me to beleive it DOES consider actual usage and uptime.  Another but...  I've looked at this over a period of time (about a month) and the estimated savings hasn't changed at all.  I would think it would "learn" from the information collected over this period of time (user's actually do shut down although their current power scheme is set to "Always On").

Does anyone have any thoughts on this or use this feature?  Thanks again.

Regards,

Rich

Re: Power Management Report - calculations

The power savings are based on the current settings of the computer vs. the settings that would be in place with the power policy.   The actual uptime is not taken into account.

If you want reports based on your actual data, then take a look at our new Power Manager product for LANDesk.  Adds the missing pieces you need for visibility.
