We've been running LD 8.70.0.109 with no updates since it was installed last summer. I'd like to install Service Pack 5.
The Readme doc with SP5 doesn't mention what to backup or how. The doc on the LD website which mentions SP5, says to backup IIS after installing the SP.
As best I can determine, the way we're set up here, we are not currently backing up any portion of our LD core server. We use Backup Exec, and are backing up our SQL server, Exchange server, and File server. We do not have a remote agent installed on the LD server, so I can't really back it up this way, although backing it up this way would be my preference.
The LD docs I have don't seem to discuss backing up the LD db and/or config. ( Or at least I can't seem to find it. )
I'm not really comfortable with applying a SP without performing a backup before I do so. So...
Could I possibly impose upon someone to help me with this? What should I backup, and how should I do it?
Thanks in advance,
Tom
Try this doc Best Known Methods for Installing or Upgrading LDMS 8.7
We currently are a little paranoid. and before each upgrade we use imagew and phylock to create a hot image of the cores. Overkill and have never needed it. Since in my opinion a SP is like a major upgrade, we follow the same procedure as we do with new versions. Just look at page 37 on.... Just make sure all services are stopped and no ScheduledTaskHandler.exe or LANDesk.Scheduler.GlobalScheduler.*.exe are in memory.
Since my previous post, I've rec'd some more information.
The doc mentioned ( Overview - Upgrade Installation ) in the reply to my previous post specified that I would need the:
LANDesk Activation User Name and Password
I asked my boss, but he didn't know. ( We had had someone come in to set it up for us. ) He provided the contact for me to get it. Not only did the gentleman who had installed it send us the name & PW, but also sent me a document, for those who want/need to back up manually. It is:
LDMS Post Install Backup Whitepaper.pdf
and I believe he said that it should be available here in the forums.
Tom
LDMS Post Install Backup Whitepaper.pdf is here but is significantly older (version 8.1) than the other doc. Glad you got the information you needed.
