We have LD9 up and running in our environment and now I'm going back to make sure SQL is running as well as possible. I need to set up a Maintenance Plan and make sure memory is allocated properly on the DB server. Most of the Docs I could find reference settings for SQL 2005 and Server 2003. Both our core and DB are Server 2008 R2 64-bit. SQL is 2008 Standard Edition.
1. Should AWE memory allocation be enabled on our SQL 2008 server, or is it OK being a 2008 R2 64-bit box?
2. Is a typical maintenance plan with nightly re-indexing appropriate or is there a doc somewhere with better recommendations?
I don't think is neccessary on a 64 bit Operating System. The maintenance plans haven't really changed from 2005 to 2008. I do a nightly integrity check and reindex on my database.
