I'm having a strange problem where some settings I change in a device control configuration, don't stick when i hit save.
For example, if i check "Notify user when unauthorized USB devices are detected", enter a custom message, then press save, when I go back into that device control configuration, the check box is unchecked, and the custom message has been reset.
It only appears to be happening to certain settings within the configuration options. All other options appear to be retaining the changes I make. The options that aren't saving are:
USB Devices
bq. - Any changes made to "Block USB Devices:" check boxes
- "Notify user when unauthorized USB devices are detected:" checkbox and the custom message
- Any changes made to teh Advanded USB settings
Volumes and Network
bq. - "Block all unknown non-USB volumes" check box
- "Notify user when unauthroized volmes are detected" checkbox and the custom message.
I'm running LANDesk ver. 8.7 SP5. (Both core and console)
I'm at a loss as to what could cuase this problem. I've tried searching the community site, and also the old forums, but failed to find any relevant information.
If anyone could provide any help at all, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Casey.
I upgraded to LANDesk 8.8, and im still getting the same problem.
Is anyone out there in LANDesk Land able to suggest a few things I can try?
Just the default database that gets automatically installed with LANDesk. MSSQL i believe.
Here is what I suspect:
Sometime in the past you downloaded updates to LANDesk or an entire LANDesk install, and you didn't trust the LANDesk website in the Browser Settings.
When that happens, the OS will write "Streams" information into the file saying it was from an untrusted source. This can block LANDesk from properly using files and also can cause problems with upgrades.
There is a community article devoted to this subject:
http://community.landesk.com/support/docs/DOC-1002
Basically what you need to do is download this file: http://download.sysinternals.com/Files/Streams.zip
And then run the following commands after copying streams.exe to the root of your hard drive:
streams.exe -d -s "C:\Program Files\LANDesk\" (substitute another drive letter if LANDesk is installed on another drive)
streams.exe -d -s C:\inetpub\
This will remove the Unknown Publisher information for all the LANDesk files.
Try your changes in Connection Control Manager again and see if it works. When you make changes and then go to save it, it should prompt you "Configuration or Script exists. Are you sure you want to overwrite? (Yes) (No)".
If this still doesn't work, after you have run the Streams program, I would suggest reinstalling LDMS 8.8.
Let me know how this works out for you.
Hi LANDave,
Thanks heaps for the response. I was starting to think i was beyond help ?:|
I did as you suggested (on the LANDesk core), and here's the output:
D:\>streams.exe -d -s "D:\Program Files\LANDesk\"
Streams v1.56 - Enumerate alternate NTFS data streams
Copyright (C) 1999-2007 Mark Russinovich
Sysinternals - www.sysinternals.com
No files with streams found.
I also ran on my machine (which has the console installed), with the same results.
I think a re-install of LD8.8 may be on the cards, as i've just recently resolved another issue (with the much needed help of an Official LANDesk support technician) which the cause was that a particular file did not update to the new 8.8 version after install.
My only concern is that there's nothing to say that a reinstall won't produce the same results. I guess there's no harm in trying though.
I'll run a reinstall of 8.8 at my next available opportunity, but if you can think of anything else i can try in the meantime, please let me know.
Thanks!
Actually, it turns out i was telling big fat ones.
Running this on the inetpub directory actually fixed the problem. You're a genious!
Thank you very much for your help.
