I've heard end of Sept. but this is a ballpark date and may slip. The biggest overall change I've heard is the removal of AMP. I've also heard that there will be significant changes to reporting (easier and not reliant on AMP) and OSD/HII, however, these changes could be removed/altered.
The SP2 release, scheduled for end of Q3 2010, and provides new capabilities, as well as improvements based on customer feedback, including:
We are going to LANDesk 9 Wednesday next week. Still crossing my fingers for the rease of SP2 this week or the beginning next week.
Otherwise we have to upgrade first to SP1 and maybe over 2 weeks to SP2.
Already rescheduled the upgrade before due to the expected release date of SP2, but I don't have a chance to reschedule it again because otherwise it will stop other project (for example Windows 7 and Server 2008)
But the changes in SP2 are to important and to big to skip it.
Have to say that LANDesk didn't do a good job with LANDesk 9. Such important changes in a service pack? it is almost a major upgrade.
Some of the changes are to big to put it in a Servicepack. and some changes are simply to late.
But not everything is bad. ;-) LANDesk did a good step forward with version 9.
Too bad, so much extra work...
In their defense, they were owned by Avocent at the time and they wanted to have all their products under 1 umbrella. Ok, an umbrella that took forever to open and use, and then once it was open, it was heavy as hell and made it slow to move around and do anything...
It's October 29....has anyone heard if it's really going to be released today? We've been pushing off a deployment for a couple of weeks trying to wait.
LANDesk rep told me today (Oct 29th) SP2 will be released. As with all other service packs it will most likely be released later in the day.
