Can I move my 8.8SP4 db from SQL2000 to SQL2008?

We will not be moving to v9 until January, but I am moving some of our databases from SQL 2000 to SQL 2008 and I am hoping to be able to move LANDesk too and shut off the old server. Can I move the db to 2008 with 8.8SP4? It looks like it is very easy to point the core to the new db but I don't want to mess up anything due to differences in the database versions.

Yes.  Once the database has been moved, open the 32-bit console and go to Configure > Services -- under the 'General' tab (the first one to appear) configure the database connection properties.

    Eric,

I've been told we don't support SQL 2008 for 8.8.  This DBMS version is supported in LDMS version 9.  Reading your post again, I'm guessing you already had this information regarding supported SQL versions.  It probably goes without saying that it's best to run the suite on a fully supported database platform, as that is where the "rubber meets the road", so to speak.

So you still had to upgrade your DB prior to going to v9.  Curious as how you proceeded over the last several months, as we planning a clean install of 9SP2 (perhaps on Server2008R2?) and utilizing the DB from an 8.8S2a+ SQL2000 box.  We'll export/import the application items (Scheduled Tasks, Packages, Queries, etc.). from the old server. Thanks.

Hi Tony, you need to update your database sql version from sql 2000 to a newer supported version (SQL2005 or SQL2008); you can make a backup of your db on a file device ex: lddb88.bak and then on your SQL2008 management studio make a restore from file lddb88.bak

Now you have a lddb (LANDesk version88 but SQL version2008).

Create a new database (call it  lddb9 for example) on the same SQL2008 server.

When you install LDMS9 it asks you information about old database and new database you fill in with lddb88 for the old and lddb9 for the new; the SQLServer is the same.

Note you have to assure that sql user owner of the 2 database is sysadmin to complete db upgrade, anyway look at this article:

    Hope this help regards

Hi, if you mean that you want to upgrade your Core server 8.8 operating system from 2003 to W2008? i don't bilieve it can work, it's always suggest not to upgrade Windows OS on the same machine and LANDesk too does not support an upgraded server. I can suggets to export all the things you can and completely rainstall server with 2008 and LDMS9 then reimport data; for example you can export

    Critical file: certificate, ldlogon, scripts

Object: Queries, device  inventories, OSD scripts, Agents  NO chance for distribution packages unfortunately

Re: Can I move my 8.8SP4 db from SQL2000 to SQL2008?

I know that install LDMS9 on upgraded server is not supported by LANDesk at all; so theorically you cannot  upgrade from 8.8 to 9SP2 on 2003 (if 2003 is an upgrade fromW200).

Consider that if your DB is on a different server WithSQL2008 as we discuss before, and you don't touch all your packages share (maybe they are on D: )  you can format C:, install W2008 then LDMS9 indicating the upgraded DB (lddb9) you save all your data. If your packages configuration refers to Packages share on d:

I don't know what happen if you have LDMS88 installed on D: and you format C: i mean LDMS88 will be unusable and not upgraded, so it's better completely uninstall LDMS88.

See document attached it's very clear on upgrade scenario
