Deleting articles

I was wondering if it was possible to delete or remove articles from knowledge management.  I know that we can retire but I am looking getting rid of articles that are not needed anymore for various reasons.

    Hi

If you create a query on articles are you able to right click on the article and select the delete action?  You may need to remove any associated records (for example keywords, solutions, etc) first.

    Best wishes

    Re: Deleting articles

I think knowledge articles are seen as process objects so you cannot deleted them from the main app, you could have a script to do this, but such a script would need to be developed, probably by LANDesk.  If LDSD had archiving then that would be another solution - vote here for archiving!

To keep my old cobber Dave happy I've voted on his link (plus of course I agree it would be a useful facility).  I do however have the ability to delete articles if I am logged in as SA - see below.  I've checked that they do get removed from the km_article table.  This is on 7.4.

    Re: Deleting articles

PS I can also do the same for an attachment if I write a query on this and select delete.

    Re: Deleting articles

I recently received the request to "remove all knowledge management articles" because the KM development guys were finished testing and wanted to make a presentation to their boss with no messy test data showing.

I already had a script from Landesk for removing all incident data, so I looked up a list of the tables related to [km_article], and I adapted that script to remove all KM articles, looping through and removing related rows from all dependent tables first.

I attached the script if any of you "DBA" types are collecting these.  AS ALWAYS, **DO NOT** RUN DATABASE SCRIPTS in any situation where you are not sufficiently knowledgeable and prepared (with BACKUPS) to put everything back the way it was.

This is for MS SQL SERVER, and was tested successfully on SQL 2005 SP4.
