I've read the past threads on this, what few there were, but was unable to locate an answer that worked.
When I attempt to query for IE versions, Utilizing the Custom Data, or the Product/Name functions, I get a jumbled response. It brings back pretty much everything in the computer software inventory.
I need to be able to differiniate between IE 7 and IE 8 but can not get it to run correctly and bring back what i am asking it for. I can get it to bring back 8 only. but not 7 and 8 nor, more perfably, everything but 8.
After establishing the quert to bring back the above, I would tack on it further statements that will bring it back for a particular subnet as well. I've managed to do this for other programs, such as Lotus and Adobe, but IE isnt' performing the same... I must assume this is because it's imbedded into the OS correct?
Thanks for any help you can provide scripting the correct logic for this function.
So you have to run a query for EVERY version of IE? There isn't a way to search for all that is Less than 8?
In my case,. when we had to update 2000+ users to IE8, i used this query because SQl queries "less then" did not work properly when searching for Internet Explorer.
Not sure what version/sp you guys are on but in 9.0 SP2 and som mcps, < 8 works very well exuding 7,6, and YAK 9 versions. Using:
KEY=HKLM, SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer, Version, CEG - SFWR - OPSYS - IEVersion
I even used not like and with 8.0 and it worked. You could use a custom vulnerability based on file version. Not sure why it is not working, but if you post your query we can take a look along with version/sp.
Not sure why LANDesk does not bake IE detection into the inventory.
"computer"."custom data". "internet explorer"."Version"."Like"8.0.6001.18702
The above will retreive some of the information I need..But it will also retrieve just about every other piece of software out there too.... I'm moving our district up from 7 to 8 and need to know who is still on 7 and then from there I have to group them by subnet (Locational) so I can notify of upgrade.
Can someone provide the right logic?
not sure if your question was directed to zman, but i wouldn't use "like" in the query, but an equal sign instead "=".
See below. My assumption is you have a column defined in your query relating to add and remove programs or othe branch of Software. Remove these and for column identifier use "computer"."custom data". "internet explorer"."Version"
"computer"."custom data". "internet explorer"."Version"."<"8
Whatever you have in your last column please remove it and replace with what I recommended above.
That got it... I have to learn when to use logic and when to use column sets.
