Last Software Scan Date is NOT updating

I have an issue where several thousand machines are not updating their Last Software Scan Date value after a full scan is performed.

Using a LANDesk script to force a full scan, the following command runs:

REMEXEC1=<qt/>%LDMS_CLIENT_DIR%\LDISCN32.EXE<qt/> /NTT=%server%:5007 /S="%server%" /I=HTTP://%server%/ldlogon/ldappl3.ldz /NOUI /NOCD /F /SYNC

On almost 4000 machines, 3500 report as successfully scanned.

When I run a report or a query on LAST Software Scan Date - the date does not change and remains between 10 and 30 days ago. Other "Last scanned" fields update with the current date.

1. Why is this date field not updating?

2. Can I be reasonably sure that Software scans are not occuring?

3. What can I do to make sure that software scans are occuring and that the date field gets updated?

Did you tested, right click on System - Inventory - Hardware and Software Scan (press F5 after a while and check Date)?

Is the latest Agent Version on those Systems applied? (Re-Apply Agent and test again)

You can also store scans and check the files - Configure - Service - Inventory - Advanced Settings - change Store Scans to 1

Check the Files inside your Landesk Installation - Scan Folder

    "\Program Files\LANDesk\ManagementSuite\ldscan"

    Best Regards

Re: Last Software Scan Date is NOT updating

I'd choose a handful of those devices that aren't updating and try your forced scan again. Does it work this time? If not, then get on them yourself and manually run the scanner with those parameters but this time replace /NOUI with /V so you can watch the progress. Perhaps there is an error that is stopping the software scan.

Try this before checking other things and if that doesn't show anything then we can look at what is happening server-side.

Re: Last Software Scan Date is NOT updating

    Certainly odd behaviour.

When you push out a large job the scans it could be that the scans are building up in your LDSCAN folder and taking a long time to process. Perhaps you aren't waiting long enough? Take a look at that folder (LDMAIN\LDSCAN) and see if they are building up

I've never really seen this behaviour. If the core server couldn't be contacted then I'd expect to see an error within your scheduled task as the scanner would fail. if that is working, then the scan must make it to the core (which is why watching the LDSCAN folder will tell you if that;s the case) and then something is going wrong there.

If they make it to the Core, then are you seeing lots of error scans in that subdirectory to LDSCAN? If you are, then take a look at your Application event log to see what's happening to cause them.

If scans don't make it to the Core, then we need to take a look at that.

Re: Last Software Scan Date is NOT updating

    Travis,

In addition to MarXtar and Troga, I would suggest to check error scans on your core server. In \\your_core\ldmain\ldscan\ check how many files you have there? Are they all from today or you older once too? Also check \\your_core\ldmain\ldscan\errorscan\, how many scan files do you have in there?

I would also recommend checking Console > Configure > Services > Inventory tab > Software button: what values do you have there? Just to be on the safe side that you don't have a value about software scan being once a year or so :-)

Also worth looking at Console > Configure > Services > Inventory tab > Advance Settings > DB Error Recovery Tries

When you look at the inventory of a device that should have run a full scan, does "Last updated by inventory server" acually update?

    Thanks.
