I'm running into a weird issue right now. We are running LANDesk 9.0 SP2 (with all public MCPs installed). Because we're a decentralized model, different groups administrator their own machines.
I am assisting a group in deploying the LANDesk agent to their PCs however during their testing they've discovered that two of their in-house applications written in .NET which run off a mapped network share takes at least 3-5 minutes to load after the LANDesk Agent (LANDesk 9.0 SP2) is loaded on the computer.
If I disable the Softmon service, the application launches immediately. Likewise, if I disable our anti-virus client (Trendmicro OfficeScan 10.1), the application launches immediately.
It seems like it may have something to so with the real-time scanning feature in LANDesk's softmon service and/or our anti-virus. I can't exactly disable our anti-virus clients and I can't really proceed any further with deploying LANDesk to this group unti lI slow this application issue. We're not using LANDesk's anti-virus or spyware scanning features and they are both turned off in the Agent Configuration.
The other weird issue here is that it only seems to occur on Windows 7 (32-bit) clients. The problem doesnt occur on Windows XP clients or Windows 7 64-bit clients.
This problem only happened after loading the LANDesk agent on these machines. If I disable Softmon, it fixes the issue or if I disable our anti-virus it fixes the issue. Lastly, if i run the application with elevated priviledges the problem does not occur but I can't do that since it would mean making all our users administrators.
Do you have LANDesk processes excluded frm being monitored by your AV? Just wondering if they might be competing against each other.

So have you insured that LDMS antivirus/spyware is off on the workstation? Also if softmon is off, and Trend is on is there still slowness? If so what happens if softmon is on and trend is on and you excluded the network folder from trend? I usually run process monitor http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645 when I see these issues.
Yes LDMS anti-virus/spyware is definitely turned off. If Softmon is off and Trend is there, there is no sloweness however if both of them are running then the application will take several minutes to load off the network. Unloading Trend fixes the issues, just as killing the Softmon service also fixes the issue.
I did try including the application in the Real-time Scan exclusion list for TrendMicro but that did not help
I havent tried excluding LANDesk processes from TrendMicro yet. I am going to see if that helps. I'll also check to see what Process Monitor is showing.
AntiVirus can be tricky. if not configured properly every time LANDesk reads a file, so does the AV program. It's not enough to exclude the ldclient directory from scanning. What you need is to tell trend to treat softmon.exe (as well as vulscan.exe, gatherproducts.exe, sdclient.exe and ldiscn32.exe, any exe's in LDClient would be best to no scan on read, only write.
In Trend you can add these applications through the scan results page. When you run a quick or full scan programs that poses behaviors that can be malicious will be listed. From there a button to add as trusted or blocked this program is available to automatically set the action for the selected program on your computer.
