We are about to upgrade our LDMS 9.0 core to SP2 - the core is currently at version 22.214.171.1243. I've been through the "Download the latest Service Pack for LANDesk Software products version 84" document, which has some useful pointers in there but I am struggling to find any best practice documents within the LD community articles. The only other one I can find that is relatively useful is:
"LANDesk Management Suite 9.0 - Best Known Methods for Installing or Upgrading the Core Server to LANDesk Management Suite 9.0".
We are taking all the usual backup approaches before the installation of SP2. Ideally, we want any best practice documention that targets upgrades of the LDMS core from version 9.0 to 9.0 SP2 or any other additional information for installing the service pack. It would be nice to know any 'gotcha's' or issues to watch out for, before we proceed with this installation.
Any help/pointers appreciated here guys and gals and apologies if there is not enough information above on what is my first post. Be gentle .
Thanks in advance.
Here at my shop we run a virtual Core, so for me, before any upgrades,I do a few things. I take a snapshot of the server which I can roll back to if the upgrade bombs and I make sure my nightly SQL database backup is in place. With those two precautions in place I can basically fix any problem that might occur, from system death to database corruption.
It has worked well so far!
Thanks for that Brendan, really appreciate it.
The core we are about to upgrade is a virtual core as well so, thanks for the advice there. Anyone else, with some good tips? We are particularly looking for any issues/gotcha's surrounding the upgrade so we don't have to learn the hard way!
If you have maintenance / support agreements with LANDesk, I would contact them, let them know what you are doing and ask them if there are any additional hot fixes or "component patches" you should be installing after SP2.
to find out more about component patches
There have been numerous hot fixes released.
Thanks for the advice. We upgraded our core server last month and everything went sweet. Our core too was virtualised. Very happy everything went well without any hiccups.
