What would cause avservice.exe to use up more than half of the memory on a machine? I have tried the following things so far:
. stop/start service
. reboot machine
. reinstall the AV component
. reinstall the landesk agent
but it hasn't helped.

However, the exclusions in this case is not the issue. I was just asking due to a recent issue we were investigating.
How much memory is "half the memory"?
In addition, make sure that you install SP2 and the latest Antivirus MCP on the client.
The latest MCP patch has a newer engine and marked performance improvements.
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4600+
avservice is using up approx. 55%-60% of it during the scan. So, this is the weekly (every 7 days) scan that we run on machines that is causing avservice to act up. Also, the scan is taking almost 10-11 hours to complete.
We are on SP2 on the core and awaiting SP3 to apply the updates.
