we have recently upgraded from 7.3.2 to 7.5 and we have noticed (didn't come across this in testing) that the details field of WebDesk incident windows is slow to respond to input. it doesn't follow the normal speed of typing. the summary field is fine and not an issue. i know that fields such as Description that were of unlimited string lenght (-1) have changed for WebDesk and there is a new property called multiline. the multiline value for the field in question is set to True. any setting that might improve responsiveness?
I've recently been working with a customer who reported similar - if it is the same thing then it's specific to particular browser versions (earlier versions of IE) and window designs. Can you please log a support case for this, referencing this thread, as I have something I can send you to try out but it's not ready yet to post on community.
will do. just for the record the users seeing this are using a mixture of IE 7 and IE 8
Thanks Dave. Those are the two affected browser versions so it does sound like it could be the same issue. I will work with the member of the support team who has picked this up and you will get some advice shortly.
We appear to be having the same issue in LDSD 7.5 SP1 with IE8.
Any news on this since May?
Yes, to fix this you should need to switch off the autogrow option for text fields because IE8 doesn't perform well with this. How to do this is described at the start of the 7.5sp1 Issues fixed guide or if you search on "Performance Improvement" within the 7.5sp1 Upgrade guide. Here are links to these:
Thanks Karen. Worked like a charm.
Is this also a symptom for 7.4?
Yes this issue can be seen on 7.4. It is not seen on HTML large text fields because they are a set size and do not expand when you type. You will be able to tell this is the issue because IE9, Firefox or Chrome do not experience this slowness.
In terms of how to workaround this IE issue in 7.4, the product side workaround didn't come in until 7.5sp1 so you would need to speak to Support to discuss the options. Quote problem reference 5453.
