After reimaging the Management Gateway and using a restore point Activation and Patching fails

    Issue: After reimaging the Management Gateway and using a restore point Activation fails with a "Communication Error" and patch definitions will not download resulting in "Scan Complete".


    Resolution: The backup restore points on both versions of the Management Gateway Appliance (4.0 and 4.2) don't appear to be initializing the NICs properly. The steps to resolve this issue will be slightly different depending on the situation and version. See below:

     

    4.0 = Click the "Save" button (no changes required) on the Network Settings Tab under System.

    4.2 = If you are using 1 NIC then ETH1 will not be removed by the backup/restore point. If ETH1 is set to 192.168.0.2 after using the restore point then remove it and click Save.

     

    Both Activation and downloading of Patch Definitions should now function fine.

     

    Note: There have been a few cases where the problem remains after performing the previous actions. This issue is under investigation. To test this issue and as a work around reimage the Management Gateway, configure the network settings manually, and then perform all patching.
