Are you referring to the Scheduled Task for the Provisioning job? To my knowledged there was/is no specific deliery method settings for Distribute Software in Provisioning in 8/9.
In 8 if you authenticated in WinPE and chose your provisioning task you also had the drop down at the bottom for the delivery method for any SWD tasks in the template. This was handy as now in 9 the SWD tasks are taking a long time to download as they are using TMC!
There is a (possibly beta) patch that puts this back in. One of our sites makes extensive use of it. Ask your vendor nicely.
That is correct that this behavior was there in 8.8. There is also a hotpatch for it, which I am about 99% sure will be included in SP1. I'll have to double check to make sure of that. I'll take a look and verify and report here within the next few hours.
was it also possible in LDMS 8 to define the delivery method for any SWD task within the provision template or task, or only if you do your choise from the menu within winpe?
We are ne to LD and I only know LDMS 9.
Would be a great feature to have that...any news if there is a patch available?
New to LANDesk since version 9.0
I had no way in selecting the delivery method, so did not spend any Research on selecting the best one.
Recently installed SP2 and now I have the option to select a delivery method, but was wondering what is the best option?
The only impact you'll have is when you try and run a provisioning template with a distribute software action it will use the network bandwidth/download settings from the delivery method. Everything else is totally ignored.
One thing to keep in mind is that Provisioning requires that it be a policy delivery method, so just find one that downloads how you would like it to and you should be good to go.
Thank you for your reply.
I created a delivery method that uses 100% bandwith.
I don't really like regurgitated material but I just answered a question earlier with my "opinion" so I will paste it here as same:
This is just my opinion from experience, I usually try to stick to the "Execute File" method in provisioning. When I use a distribution package I am at the mercy of the sdclient and all the rules of bandwidth throttling. With the execute file method I have successfully hit up to 100 machines. Now don't get me wrong, provisioning non-baremetal machines is really flaky and unreliable and not recommended by me in a must happen deployment, I have had some start within 10 minutes and I have had machines that never run the task. I have even deleted the schedule and locked template, turned around and rescheduled with the same results. My counterpart micro managed this down to 95% of the machines, hats off to him for persistence, but he could get no further. In short I only use SWD in provisioning when absolutely necessary and or to cumbersome to use the execute file method.
In a bare-metal install the execute file method, when correctly configured, is much faster than SWD. It is a "get it done now" type command as effective as writing directly to the command line yourself. I can run a scripted Windows 7 32bit installation with all the software required to be usable in 90 - 120 minutes depending on the speed of the machines.
Just my humble opinion,
Is there somebody able to explain me which delivery method is used ba default when you just right-click on the provisioning templates and select schedule?
Because atthe beginning one default delivery method was used, I have change it to be compliant to me requirement, and now, for any reason, when I'm right click on a provisioning template another delivery method is used...
Which algorythm LANDesk is using for that and how we can forced to use only one by default??
I believe its the first one listed under policy. If you boot to PE and have a pick list you can switch it with the drop down menu at the bottom. I have seen people create a provisioning delivery method to thier liking and name it 1_something so that it is the first one prov looks to when scheduling the template.
First of all, I'm using an automatic distribution, means I schedule the provisioning, assign my devices (already provisioned) and after that I start WinPE. Means I never see the menu with the dropdown and the ability to select the templates and delivery method. I prefer to do that on LANDesk and let the whole distribution process working alone... Means I need to choose the delivery method when I'm scheduling the tasks...
Secondly, the delivery method in policy is not choose by the provisioning scheduled task in the alpha order. Even if I rename a delivery with 1_, my scheduled task use one, in the middle of the list. I really do not understand the criteria for select this one and not another one...
I know this is a long dead thread, but I had the same question and found various threads with similar questions, but no answers. After some experminentation, it appears that the default method is picked by the lowest ID #. If you right click on the delivery method and choose "info" there is an ID Field. The method with ID #1 should be the default. I copied my ID #1 method, and then renamed and edited the original to be the default I wanted.
